Same Day Medical Advice for Ill Children

We know that it can be very worrying to have an unwell child, and that it can sometimes be difficult for parents to decide whether their child needs to see a Doctor or how urgently....

• Please ring at 8.30 am if you feel your child needs a same-day appointment.

• If all these have been used, please tell the Receptionist you feel you need same-day medical advice; she will ask for some medical details to make sure it isn’t a life-threatening emergency* and to provide assistance to you. She may arrange for the On Call Doctor to call you back as soon as possible.

• Please ensure you give us full and reliable contact details for the person we need to call – tell us if this is a grandparent or other carer.

• Where approrpriate the On Call Doctor will call back and discuss your child’s problem and may be able to reassure you or give medical advice over the telephone. However, if you or the Doctor feels your  child may be ill enough to need a face-to-face consultation, the Doctor will arrange for him/her to have a priority appointment that day.

This service is only available when the surgery is open. At all other times, ring NHS "111" free of charge for advice and to arrange any appropriate care.

* If your child is struggling to breathe, choking or not breathing, is bleeding heavily, is having a convulsion, is semi-conscious or unconscious, has a rash that does not disappear when pressed with a glass, or appears to be in immediate danger it may be appropriate to call 999 as well as / instead of calling the surgery.

Additionally Please tell us here if you have used this service and found it helpful /other feedback.
