Flu Season Starting ( posted on Sep 4, 2018 )

We have started to release our Flu clinic dates.Appointments are now available to book online or by telephone. Further dates will follow.
The campaign is different this year in that we have purchased two different type of vaccines specifically designed to offer the best protection based on your age group.

Aged 65 or over , we will be offering you a “Trivalent Adjuvenated” Vaccine. Scientifically proven to be more effective, this will protect you against the 3 most likely strains of Influenza. It has an additive which will (Safely) boost its effectiveness to levels far beyond anything previously. “Fluad” as it is known is only licenced for use in over 65’s.
The first session is on Monday 17th September 14:00 to 16:30 although if you are in the surgery inbetween, please ask to have it then!

If you are under 65 and in an at risk group (eg Diabetes, Some Asthma Patients,COPD, Heart Disease Stroke /TIA, Kidney failure etc) a Carer, or Immunocompromised (or living with someone who is) we will be offering you a “Quadrivalent” Vaccine which protects against all 4 strains of the flu and will therefore be more effective than previously the case. This vaccine by Mylan is much less effective for the over 65’s
The first session is on Thursday 27th September 14:00 to 16:00 again, if you are in the surgery inbetween, please ask to have it then!

NHS Hearing Clinic commences 2nd February 2018 ( posted on Jan 26, 2018 )

We are delighted to announce that in association with Scrivens Hearing Care we will be hosting a convenient NHS Hearing Clinic every other Friday from 2nd February. This will incorporate initial hearing  screening, full hearing assessments (After GP referral), where approrpriate fitting of NHS hearning aids and after care service. If Patients then choose to "upgrade" devices, a private follow on appointment can be arranged for this.Click HERE for more information

New GP Starting in January ( posted on Dec 14, 2017 )

We are delighted to announce that Dr Nalini Kulkarni (female) will be joining us permanently in January. Nalini is an experienced GP who joins us from a practice in Stalybridge and will consult on a Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday. Alongside Dr Cressida Crabtree (Wednesday & Thursday) This will assist us to balance female / male doctor availability across the week.

Telephone System ( posted on Oct 3, 2017 )

Disappointingly the commissioners of our (improved) hosted telephone system have found that it is too unstable to continue with and have made the decision to withdraw it following the four pilot sites of which we were one.

Whilst we have received good feedback particularly about the queuing system there have been problems with the quality of calls and on occasions calls cutting off. Other practices involved have faced worse problems than us so, unfortunately on 18th October we will be going back to a "simple" system without call management as at present. We sincerely hope that a new solution will be developed in partership with BT before too long but ask that you please bear with us until that can be installed. If you are finding it difficult to get through at 08:30, try at 09:00 or slightly later as the call volumes drop and we usually have some appointments still available. We also recommend you use On-Line booking (app) for appointments to save calling - a range become available at  07:30 & 08:30 every morning.

We would like to get more people immunised sooner this year as this increases the effectiveness of the protection against the virus, this includes a particular focus on children.

Welcome to new Doctors ( posted on Aug 31, 2017 )

We are delighted to advise that Dr. Cressida Crabtree who has been with us for a number of months will be staying at the practice permanently with surgeries on a Wednesday and Thursday.

 

At the same time we welcome Dr Rasha Kazamel and Dr Lis Kilcourse our GP registrars who started at the beginning of August. Both will be with us for approximately 12 months continuing and completing their training as GP's.

The Practice is delighted that we have received a Silver Award for Excellence in teaching Year 5 Medical Students 2015-16 from Manchester University.

This was achieved by achieving an average feedback score above 4.9 out of 5.

We would also like to thank our Patients who have participated in having consultations with our Doctors of the future!

To compliment our improved access, we are pleased to advise you that arrangements have been made in Stockport for 7 day access to GP, Practice Nurse and Health Care Assistant routine appointments including blood tests; Saturday 09:00-15:00  Sunday 09:00 -13:00.

 

These can be booked ahead by contacting us on 0161 426 5375 - we will arrange for someone to contact you to book in.  These appointments are likely to be limited but will be particulalry helpful if you struggle to get in during the working week.

CQC Inspection Rating - GOOD ( posted on Nov 26, 2015 )

We are proud to announce that following our CQC inspection on 7th October we have been formally judged as "GOOD". We are particually pleased that this was recognised across all 5 Domains (Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive & Well Led) in line with our mission statement. The Inspectors also noted the same consistency across all six population groups. We would like to thank the patients that participated on the day and for those who have fedback kind comments about the practice over recent months.


Changes to Parnership ( posted on Nov 26, 2015 )

We advise that Dr Sally Gilmour left the practice on 31st October to take up a role in Elderly Mental Health and we wish her well. She will be missed by patients & staff alike. Arrangements are in hand to reallocate patients for whom she is their "named GP" and please ask if you would like to know. If you have any preference please ask as we can usually accomodate this. For the time being, we have asked Dr Barlow (Who was our Registrar) to stay with us to cover Dr Gilmours surgeries.

 

Dr Carter has now reduced the number of surgeries that he holds to four weekly on a Monday and a Friday - this is to persue his developing private accupuncture practice.

 

We are working on exciting new plans to develop our capability and further improve capacity and more news will follow as these are implemented.

Repeat Prescriptions Turnaround Time ( posted on Dec 5, 2014 )

Due to significant increases in workload pressures regretfully, we have to announce that our turnaround time for ROUTINE REPEAT prescriptions will be extended to 2 clear working days with effect from 1st January 2015.

 

 

The increased pressure that the service is under means that we are no longer satisfied that we can turn prescriptions around in our current same day timeframe and guarantee it to be safe.

 

 

The 2 day turnaround time is bringing us into line with the majority of practices locally and nationally and we have set the date for change as the 1st of January to try to limit any inconvenience.

 

Time scales for dealing with non-routine requests remain unaffected and these will continue to be dealt with case by case with a minimum 2 working day service but possibly longer for more complicated requests.

 

 

We apologise for any inconvenience during the transition time and we hope you understand that our highest priority remains the safety of our patients.

Launch of the Friends and Family Test ( posted on Nov 20, 2014 )

With effect from 1st December 2014 every GP Practice must give patients the opportunity to answer a specific question relating to how likely they would be to recommend the practice to friends and family. The idea is that this will provide a simple measure of patient satisfaction which we must return to NHS England on a monthly basis.

 

We also ask a second question allowing you to free text - this information is not collated centrally but can be used to improve services wherever possible. All responses are anonymous and you can choose not to have any comments you make published.

 

Patients & carers are free to complete this (or not) whenever they want either on line here or on cards available in the waiting rooms and the doctor's & nurses rooms. Just complete one and drop it into the red post box in the waiting room.

Dr Wynne-Jones is leaving the practice ( posted on Oct 31, 2014 )

Doctor Wynne-Jones needs to have an operation early in November and has decided not to return to work afterwards.

Extended Hours - PRG Consultation: Outcome ( posted on Jun 7, 2013 )

We recently contacted the Patient Reference Group to consult on a proposed change to our extended hours as follows;

 

Dear members of the Patient Reference Group 

 

We are due shortly to renew our agreement with NHS England for the provision of extended hours surgeries. To clarify, this is for appointments we offer outside our core opening hours of 08:00 – 18:30 Monday to Friday – often useful for commuters or those wishing to avoid office or school hours. 

 

Whilst the result of the recent Patient Questionnaire indicated that the majority of Patients are content with the present hours, we would  like to get your thoughts about our proposals going forward.  A change that we are proposing is to end the trial Thursday evenings 18:30 – 19:30 we have been running as, the Doctor has received regular feedback that this time is unpopular, particularly during the dark winter evenings. There have also been occasions where, if the same Doctor has to visit a Patient on that evening, that visit has had to be delayed or, the evening surgery has been delayed with either outcome  potentially compromising Patient care. 

 

We therefore propose as an alternative, a surgery Wednesday weekly 07:00-08:00 and in summary this would mean that going forward we will offer; 

 

Tuesdays                                   07:00-08:00 

Wednesdays                              07:00-08:00

Saturdays (Once Monthly)         08:00-10:00

Occasionally Monday /Thursday 07:00-08:00

 

Please will you advise me by return email and by COB 7th June latest,  your thoughts on this proposal and whether you would have any objections?

As a result of this and feedback received directly from Patients attending the Thursday evening clinic, we believe that we have a clear mandate and will therefore seek to implement the change. We will submit the proposal to NHS England and anticipate commencement in July.

Increase in Upper Age Limit for Bowel Cancer Screening ( posted on Aug 20, 2012 )

We have been advised that with immediate effect, theupper age limit for screening has been increased from 69 to 74 click here for information about the programme.

National Summary Care Record Roll Out ( posted on May 4, 2012 )

Registered Patients should have received a letter about NHS Stockport Participating in the upload of key Patient details into the National Summary Care Record.

 

In the future, and with your consent, key information from your GP record will start to become available electronically to appropriately authorised NHS staff treating you out of hours or in an emergency.

Summary Care Records will contain key information about your health: details of your allergies, your current prescriptions and whether you have had any bad reactions to medicines.

All registered patients over the age of 16 will have received a letter, information leaflet and an opt- out form through the post which gives more information.

 

If you would like to have a Summary Care Record you don’t need to do anything (unless you have previously asked us to opt you out, in which case you will need to complete a request to create a summary care record form available here. We have telephoned these Patients to check on their continued wishes.

 

If you do not want to have a Summary Care Record, you can opt out by filling in the opt- out form included in your information pack or print one here and bring it into the surgery.

New Stockport Policy on Minor Surgery Procedures ( posted on Dec 16, 2009 )

NHS Stockport has recently issued a directive that GP's performing Minor Surgery must not remove certain types of Lesions (Lumps) rather, they must be referred for management by a specialist Dermatologist. Please be aware that we do not have any discretion over this and this may mean that you need to go to hospital to be seen.

Changes made to the NHS Complaints Procedure ( posted on May 15, 2009 )

With effect from 1st April the Care Quality Commission came into being and a new standardised procedure for complaints resolution across the NHS was launched.
